Engineered wood products are used in a variety of ways, often in applications similar to solid wood products. Engineered wood products may be preferred over solid wood in some applications due to certain comparative advantages:

  • Because engineered wood is man-made, it can be designed to meet application-specific performance requirements.
  • Engineered wood products are versatile and available in a wide variety of thicknesses, sizes, grades, and exposure durability classifications, making the products ideal for use in unlimited construction, industrial and home project application.
  • Engineered wood products are designed and manufactured to maximize the natural strength and stiffness characteristics of wood. The products are very stable and some offer greater structural strength than typical wood building materials.
  • Engineered wood products provide the natural warmth and beauty of wood. Many products are available in a variety of surface textures and treatments for nearly every aesthetic taste, from rustic to elegant. The products can be easily and beautifully finished with paints, stains, and varnishes.

Construction of Engineered Wood Flooring

Construction of Engineered Wood Flooring

  1. A finishing layer

The finishing layer may consists of:

    • Seven layers of UV-cured water based lacquer. This lacquer protects your floor against wear, scratches and stains, and makes it as easy to maintain.
    • Two layers of quality modified oil which creates an extra matt and natural authentic look and which ages gracefully.

  2. A face layer

A carefully selected, solid wood layer in a vast array of colours and structures. Most engineered wood floors have a face layer of 3 mm thick.

  3. A core layer

The core layer is what makes a floor stable and durable. It absorbs stress and strain and keeps the floor stable in all conditions. The balance between the hardness and the flexibility of the core material is crucial in ensuring a smooth click and a strong connection. The core consists of spruce, Hevea or HDF.

  4. A veneer backing

A backing layer of spruce or pine veneer. In combination with the other layers, it prevents the floor from cupping or warping.

Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product fused together with a lamination process. Laminate flooring simulates wood (or sometimes stone) with a photographic applique layer under a clear protective layer.

There are many benefits to choosing a laminate floor over other types of flooring. Laminate flooring is quite versatile and durable. Recently laminate floors have seen success in simulating stone and tile patterns as well as wood.

Construction of Laminate Flooring

Construction of Laminate Flooring

  1. A transparent, wear-resistant overlay

This top layer makes floor resistant to stains, wear, impact, scratches, burns and household chemicals. It consists of several melamine layers that are pressed onto the HDF core board in a press, under high pressure and temperature. The surface layer is finished with a wood or tile texture/structure that is called 'registered-embossed'. This means that this surface structure is perfectly in harmony with the design.

  2. A design layer

This is the layer that defines the actual look of your floor. The design layer is a very high resolution photo of real wood or tiles that is reproduced with highly sophisticated printing techniques and finished with melamine resin. The combination of perfect design and surface structure makes the wood or tile imitation look extremely real and natural.

  3. A moisture resistant glued HDF core board

This HDF core board is the heart of a Laminate floor. HDF means 'High Density Fibre Board'. It consists of refined wood fibres and high quality melamine resin. It is a re-composed wood-fibre board which allows using all part of the tree. The board is very homogenous in composition and technical characteristics. It's extremely durable, stable and highly moisture resistant.

  4. A balancing layer

This moisture-resistant backing layer guarantees a perfectly balanced board that will not cup or bow when properly installed and maintained.

Rhino

Rhino Raised Access Floors have been specifically designed to cater for the demands and flexibility required by today's highly technological business environment and is manufactured to CISCA, MOB, and BSEN Standards.

Raised access floor comprises of load bearing floor panels laid in a horizontal grid supported by adjustable vertical pedestals to provide an under floor space for the housing and distribution of M & E services.

The floor panels are designed to allow quick access to the under floor services. Raised access floor is used to provide a means of creating a void below floor level which is capable of ensuring under floor services are available at the required place. These services will typically include the following: Electrical power, data, telecom, environmental control/air conditioning, fire detection and suppression, security, water and drainage.

The use of a raised access floor will allow quick and easy access to these services for maintenance reasons. Also in today's office, the layout has to be modified to cater for changing requirements brought about by new technology, new personnel or new tenants to a building.

Benefits

Raised access floors are used extensively to provide the following benefits:

  1. Quick and easy access to the ever increasing volume of Power, data, telecom, cables (wires).
  2. For maintenance, rerouting or upgrading of the above with as little disruption as possible to the work process.
  3. The under floor void or cavity / plenum is often used as a large duct for HVAC systems.
  4. Buildings need to be adaptable to the needs of incoming occupiers and lend themselves to new office organizations and layouts with the redirection of services.
  5. RAF can provide the dynamism to space when used as open office area allowing to change the layout with minimum down time to suit client's needs.
